I’ve long been interested in abstract and non-representational forms. It may seem strange to use a camera – a tool that is designed to capture and depict “reality” as accurately as it can – in order to create images that are departures from reality. But photographers have been dabbling in this artistic realm from the beginning. I don’t set out to create abstracts (though I know photographers who do); rather I “find” the subjects and compositions around me, and sometimes in the strangest places. For instance, these images all started life as pictures of the abrasions and rust found on the shovels of snow removal trucks and tractors.
