Forgotten Gods & Myths

Outside of an old warehouse in downtown Toronto, I stumbled across a trove of cast-off recreations of gods and myths. Cherubs and Sphinxes sat among lions and dragons. And there sat Mercury, looking the worse for wear, the wings on his helmet clipped, his winged feet gone. Perhaps these had been reclaimed from local gardens or buildings undergoing renovations. There were no signs on the warehouse to indicate who owned them or what they were doing there. As I took some photographs, I wondered who had owned them originally. Why these particular classical figures? What had they symbolized for the stately home or building they had graced? Aside from those with obvious damage, why had they fallen from favour to come to rest here?
