In the Ocean of the Sky

I first saw Alfred Stieglitz’s “Equivalents” in the early 1970’s and they have stuck with me ever since. Taken between 1925 and 1934, Stieglitz’s B&W images of clouds were among the first photographs intended to free the subject from literal interpretation. Many thousands of photographers have experimented with cloud pictures since that time, but not I. Until one evening a few years ago. It wasn’t planned – I just liked what I saw in the sky. The moon makes a very small appearance in two of the images. In the last two in particular, the clouds remind me of waves in the ocean.
